Remember the Triangle Fire!

The 103rd Official Commemoration of the Triangle Fire has been scheduled.  On Tuesday, March 25, from 12-1, observers will gather at the site of the fire, Washington Place and Greene Street, to remember the tragic deaths of the 146 workers who perished in the fire that broke out at the Triangle Shirtwaist Fire.  For more information, see the Remember the Triangle Fire Coalition’s website, here.  You can also download their official poster.

Fourth Annual Clara Lemlich Awards on April 2

LaborArts, the wonderful labor cultural/history organization and the Triangle Fire Coalition are holding their fourth annual Clara Lemlich awards on April 2, 2014, 6:00-8:00 p.m.  The honorees are Barbara Bailey, Marilyn Frankenstein, Jane Kalmus, Judy Lerner, Joan Levine, Sarah Martin, and Agnes Wong.  The award ceremony will be at the Puffin Gallery for Social Activism at the Museum of the City of New York.  For more information, see the LaborArts site on the Lemlich awards, or the Lemlich Awards flyer.

New Labor History Musical About Kate Mullany

PicketerLabor pioneer Kate Mullany, an Irish immigrant who went on to found the Collar Laundry Union in Troy, NY, will be honored on May 14 and 15 by a new musical by Ruth Henry, “Don’t Iron While the Strike Is Hot.”  The musical will be staged Bush Memorial Hall at Russell Sage College in Troy, and all proceeds will benefit the Kate Mullany National Historic Site.
